Noah Fant is a player that when he’s on the field is always a big play threat. He’s a willing blocker and when he’s matched up with a smaller defender, he’ll almost always win that battle. His 6’5″ frame paired with his blazing speed makes him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. He’s confident in his ability and he knows how to work against defenders to box them out. Even when defenders are draped all over him, Fant is capable of reeling in almost any ball. A disciplined player, Fant only had two penalties called on him the entire season; one false start and one hold. He’ll be the first tight end off the board.

Although he consistently shows an effort when blocking no matter who he’s blocking, strong defenders won’t have too difficult of a time getting off the block. (Aside from the Nebraska game, where he blocked a defensive lineman to pave the way for a 30-yard TD). Fant had some issues with drops throughout the season that cost his team, especially against Northwestern when he dropped a wide-open pass on 4th and 3 in overtime to lose the game. He lacked the effort on some passes early in the year when he wouldn’t dive for passes, but that changed as the season went on. The Iowa offense limited him in both volume and variety, go routes and quick outs accounted for 43.62% of his routes run. Being in a run-heavy offense limited his opportunities.

An all-around talent at tight end, Fant is one of the more complete prospects. Fant is a great vertical threat to stretch the defense, a big body for the red zone, and a more than capable blocker. Although he has had his fair share of drops, he’s usually got soft hands and is a reliable target. A former defensive end that made the transition to tight end, Fant still has plenty of untapped potential to excel in the pros. He’s a high-ceiling, high-floor prospect with no character concerns at a position that’s in the middle of transitioning to leaner, more athletic players that will fit right in and stand out as a blocker when compared to similarly built TEs
