Jalen Pitre played safety for the Baylor Bears. He lined up in all different alignments, such as 2 high, in the box, as a free rusher and as a nickel defender. His biggest strength comes with his run defending and athletic ability. He’s a great run defender due to his great closing speed and fantastic burst. He rushes down hill fast and is good at diagnosing where the ball or ball carrier is going to be. He does need to clean up his tackling form a bit, but he will be a valuable asset in the run game immediately. Pitre also is a valuable contributor in the passing game. He has good coverage ability in shorter areas and decent ball skills. His football IQ also shines here as well. However, he does not have enough range or the proper ball tracking skills to be trusted as a deep safety. Pitre should be an immediate contributor, in a rotational role, for his future team due to his athleticism and football IQ. He projects best in a role where his versatility can shine and he can line up as a pass rusher, box safety and nickel corner, or the STAR role.
