Bubba Bolden typically lined up as a free safety for the Miami Hurricanes, often in single high. He is an average athlete. He has good speed, strength, and ball skills, but suffers from lack of acceleration, burst and change of direction ability. This really hurts him when he is in man coverage or with a lot of motion in the backfield. While Bolden is a willing tackler and good participant in the run game, he sometimes struggles with his run angles and adjusting to the ball carrier to put up a better tackle. His biggest issue comes from his lack of diagnosing ability and low football IQ. He can get lost in both the pass and run game much too often and this hurts his ability to be at the ball on time. In order to become a contributor at the NFL level he needs to work on this ability to cover up for his poor acceleration and burst. He will have to start off on special teams and can possibly work his way up with some more studying.
