In this article we will be looking at W-L predictions for the teams in the AFC West. The last two articles covered the AFC East and South (find those at wholeninesports.com). The AFC West is ruled by defending Super Bowl champs the Kansas City Chiefs. But don’t rule out one of the 3 teams sneaking into a wild card spot. The Broncos and Raiders both added speed and a lot of it in the draft. While the Chargers did lose Phillip Rivers to free agency, Tyrod Taylor has taken a team to the playoffs before. Can the veteran quarterbacks in Carr and Taylor lead their team to wild card berth? Can Drew Lock prove to be the quarterback John Elway has searched for since Peyton Manning left? And can Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid lead the Chiefs to back to back Super Bowl titles?

Denver Broncos

Last year the Broncos were a QB carousel until rookie QB Drew Lock took over and went 4-1 in their last 5 games. They are hoping that momentum carries on through the beginning of this season. Elway added multiple offensive weapons for Lock to work with. The Broncos signed RB Melvin Gordon and drafted speedy receivers Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler with their first 2 picks in this spring’s draft. Elway also traded for 5 time Pro Bowler Jurrell Casey to add to the defensive line that already has Bradley Chubb and Von Miller.
Season Prediction 7-9

Henry Ruggs III

Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders open Allegiant Stadium in week 2 against the Saints. That will be a spectacle even if fans are not allowed at games still. The Raiders added talent on both sides of the ball through the draft and free agency. Gruden got his guy in speedster Henry Ruggs to add to Josh Jacobs, Hunter Renfrow, Darren Waller and Tyrell Williams. They also added veteran TE Jason Witten and veteran QB Marcus Mariota to backup Carr. This is a prove it year for Carr as Raiders can get out of his contract this offseason. On defense the Raiders Maxx Crosby looks to continue his strong play after a great rookie year.
Season Prediction 6-10

Keenan Allen

Los Angeles Chargers

For the first time since 2006 the Chargers starting QB will not be Phillip Rivers. The Chargers have talent on both sides of the ball. What the concern with this team is quarterback play. Tyrod Taylor has the edge over first round pick Justin Herbert due to limited reps due to COVID 19. Does Hebert eventually take over for Taylor midway through the season or does Taylor play well enough to keep the rookie on the bench? Derwin James, Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram, Chris Harris, Casey Hayward and rookie Kenneth Murray should produce a top 15 defense.
Season Prediction 7-9

Tyreek Hill

Kansas City Chiefs

The reigning Super Bowl Champs are going nowhere for the next couple years. The Chiefs are returning almost everyone from their starting lineups used in the Super Bowl. They signed QB Patrick Mahomes to a long term extension as well as DT Chris Jones. They also added LSU RB Clyde Edwards- Helaire in the draft this spring. The Chiefs do not have an easy schedule this year by any means. They will go on the road and face the Ravens, Bills, Saints and Buccaneers along with home games against the Texans, Patriots and Falcons. Andy Reid and the rest of the coaching staff will have this team ready to defend their title.
Season Prediction 13-3
