Player Breakdown: Caleb Farley
Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley was the first major 2021 NFL Draft prospect to opt-out when he did so on July 29th of this year. Many had him as the best cornerback in the ACC, and one of the top cornerbacks in the nation heading into this 2020 College Football season. With that said, what makes him an elite cornerback prospect for the 2021 NFL Draft?
Caleb Farley has exceptional cornerback size at 6’2”, 207 lbs. To go along with that, he’s very lengthy. When you watch Farley, you soon realize that this is a guy that you can leave on his own island and not have to worry about his side of the field. He’s a true lockdown corner. What intrigues me about Farley most is how quickly he diagnoses plays and routes. The majority of the time he is running the route for the wide receiver. Furthermore, he doesn’t get fooled too often and open his hips for the wide receiver. He’s an all-around great defender. He has blazing fast closing speed, he’s an exceptional tackler, and he’s got great instincts. Additionally, he reads the eyes of the quarterback exceptionally well, and has great ball skills, as he picked off four passes last season and had 12 passes defended. He also can be used to rush the quarterback, and bring on corner-blitzes, he does exceptionally well at disguising it and getting to the quarterback quickly.
Overall, I can’t wait to see what team takes him in the draft this coming spring, but I can’t imagine he slips past the middle of the second round. This guy is an absolute stud, and he has everything that you want in a CB1.
