The year 2020 has been one for the ages. The COVID-19 pandemic put a halt on the sports world for a couple months. Now with the return of MLB, NHL and the NBA, the NFL has multiple resources on how to handle their upcoming season. The NFL and their fans will have their eyes fixed on the first game of the year between the defending Super Bowl Champions Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans on September 10th. Over the next few weeks, I will be releasing NFL record predictions for each team. The first series of predictions will be covering the AFC East.

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have the 3rd hardest schedule in the NFL with 4 of their first 5 games coming against a playoff opponent from last year. Miami had a pretty busy offseason adding 3 first round picks in the draft and then signing multiple free agents to help them bolster both sides of the ball. The biggest question for Miami entering the season is when does Tua Tagovailoa get the keys to the offense. Brian Flores did a great job down the stretch last year and this year’s team is better on paper on both offense and defense. At the end of the year their record may not show improvement, but the talent will be there.

Season prediction: 5-11

New York Jets

New York Jets

The New York Jets are coming off a very disappointing season which saw Sam Darnold regress and an offseason that saw them trade away their best player Jamal Adams. To make things worse they enter the 2020 season with the second hardest schedule in the league. Darnold and his revamped offensive line and wide receivers will be challenged right out of the gate. With their first 2 games coming against two of the best defenses from last year in Buffalo and San Francisco. The backend of their schedule isn’t any easier as 3 of their last 4 games are on the road against the Seahawks, Rams and Patriots.

Season Prediction: 4-12

New England Patriots

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots did not just lose Tom Brady this offseason, they also lost 2 important defensive players in Jamie Collins and Kyle Van Noy. Cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham will compete to be Tom Brady’s replacement. The Patriots have the NFL’s hardest schedule in 2020 and will play the Chiefs and Seahawks on the road in the first 4 weeks. Throw in games against the 49ers, Ravens, Texans and the Bills twice this season could be a rough one in New England. But the Patriots still have Bill Belichick and he is arguably the best coach ever so don’t be shocked to see the Patriots still compete at a high level this year.

Season Prediction: 8-8

Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are the favorites to win the AFC East for the first time since Jim Kelly, Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith dominated teams in the 1990s. The Bills have the 5th hardest schedule in the NFL this year but their first 4 games come against non-playoff teams from last year. The Bills will be tested as they play 4 prime time games against the Chiefs, 49ers, Patriots and the Steelers. Their top tier defense returns almost all of the starters from last year with some free agent signings to add to an already talented group. The Bills biggest move was trading their 1st round pick for Stefon Diggs. He should make Josh Allen and that entire offense more explosive than ever before. If Josh Allen takes another step in the right direction and the defense continues its elite level production. The Bills should win the division for the first time since 1995!

Season Prediction: 11-5
