Jachai Polite is a skilled pass-rusher with quick, active hands and a reliable spin move. His first step is one of the best in the class, he’s a quick twitch athlete with the ability to stutter and get the blocker off-balance then burst to the inside. Polite has a solid chop in his game with nice bend. He’s got multiple ways to get to the QB. Polite should be a strip sack specialist with how often he’ll try to bat the ball out as the QB starts his motion.  In the run game, Polite sets the edge well to force the runner back inside the tackles. When set in an edge contain he reads the QBs eyes to try and bat the ball down. He’s better than most EDGE defenders in zone coverage.

The biggest question mark about Polite all season has been his effort vs the run; often times he won’t make a legitimate attempt to make a play on the running back. He also gives up too early on plays where he loses the initial battle with the blocker and will just stay in one spot. Vs Michigan he was too concerned with talking trash after a play that he didn’t realize there was a fumble he could have easily recovered. Polite could benefit greatly from bulking up a bit as he’s only 242 pounds, this would also solve his problem of getting stood up at the point of attack too often.

Games watched: Kentucky, Missouri, Florida State, Michigan

Jachai Polite is exactly what we all thought he was. He’s a skilled EDGE that excels at rushing the passer and leaves a lot to be desired when defending the run. He’s a high-potential athlete with a pretty low-floor. He belongs to be picked in the 15-25 range but I can see a team like the Packers taking him a little higher. With proper coaching, Polite has the potential to be a repeat Pro Bowler and a fan favorite for his sack talent and attitude.

Best Fits: Green Bay Packers, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans
